# Deposits in the app

> How you move cash from your Tango wallet into a strategy on tango.finance, at Deploy and later with Deposit, and what can make a deposit wait.

A deposit moves cash from your Tango wallet into one of your strategies, and gives you shares of its vault in return. Your first deposit happens at Deploy. After that, Deposit on the strategy's page adds more. Because your wallet is the vault's admin, nobody else has to settle your deposit: it is one approval and one transaction.

> **Key points**
>
> - A deposit is one approval of the exact amount and one transaction that requests, settles, claims your shares and sends the cash into the strategy's account.
> - You pay the strategy's NAV per share at that moment. NAV is the total value of everything the strategy holds.
> - A deposit can't go through while a price the strategy needs is stale, such as a stock's price over a weekend.
> - Deposits come from cash already in your Tango wallet. To add cash to the wallet first, use Add Cash.

## How a deposit works

1. Choose Deposit on the strategy's page, enter an amount or choose Max, and confirm. The dialog shows your Cash, the most you can deposit.
2. Your wallet approves the vault to take exactly that amount of USDC.
3. Your wallet sends one transaction to the vault that requests the deposit, settles it at NAV per share, claims your shares to your wallet, and sends the cash into the strategy's account.
4. The deposit appears in Activity with its steps. Once the cash is in the strategy, agents put it to work.

Your first deposit, at Deploy, also approves your manager contract as your wallet's operator, which later lets one transaction handle a withdrawal. See [Deposits](https://app.tango.finance/docs/vault/deposits.md#on-tangofinance) for what each call does in the vault.

Tango pays the network fees for both. If you have no cash in your wallet, the dialog says so and offers Add Cash.

## What you get

You receive shares of the strategy's vault, an ERC-20 token in your Tango wallet. The number of shares is your deposit divided by NAV per share at settlement. Your share of the strategy is your shares divided by all of its shares. Since you are normally the only holder, that is all of it.

A deposit buys shares at the strategy's current value. It does not buy assets by itself. Your cash arrives in the strategy as idle cash, and the agents decide when to use it: a program on its next period, a rule on its next condition, a hold strategy right away.

## Limits

- Minimum: a deposit at Deploy must be at least Review's Minimum, enough for the strategy to run.
- Maximum: every strategy has a deposit cap, the most it accepts after withdrawals. Review shows it as Maximum, and the vault fills a deposit only up to the room left under it.
- Your cash: you can't deposit more than your wallet holds.
- Country: depositing is available only from eligible countries.

The deposit cap is fixed when the strategy is deployed. See [Deposits](https://app.tango.finance/docs/vault/deposits.md#deposit-cap).

## What can make a deposit wait

A deposit settles at NAV per share, so it needs every price the strategy depends on to be fresh.

| Cause | Why it waits |
| --- | --- |
| The strategy holds stocks and US markets are closed | Stock prices stop updating and read as stale once their feeds' heartbeat passes after the close. See [Tokenized stocks](https://app.tango.finance/docs/app/tokenized-stocks.md) |
| Cash just moved to or from Hyperliquid | The Perps account's value must update after a transfer before anything settles |
| The Perps account's value is frozen | A posted value fell below its allowed band. The account stays frozen until the NAV guardian re-anchors it. Your wallet holds that role, and the app does not offer the re-anchor yet |

## Deposits from other people

Your strategies are private in the app, but a vault is a public contract, so anyone could ask it for a deposit. tango.finance settles only your own requests automatically. Someone else's request stays pending onchain until they cancel it, and it never mixes into your strategy.
