# Withdrawals in the app

> How you take cash out of a strategy on tango.finance in one transaction, what Available counts, how to free cash that is in positions, and how cash then leaves your wallet.

A withdrawal hands back some of your shares and brings the cash to your Tango wallet. On tango.finance it is one transaction your wallet signs, and nobody else has to settle it. It pays from cash the strategy is not using. Cash in positions, money markets or on Hyperliquid has to be freed first, by closing positions.

> **Key points**
>
> - Withdraw on a strategy's page is one transaction: it brings the Strategy account's free cash back to the vault, requests, settles at NAV per share and claims the USDC to your wallet.
> - Available is the most that can leave now: the strategy's cash that is in no position.
> - To withdraw more, close positions first. Closing turns them into idle cash in the strategy, and Withdraw then takes it.
> - Withdrawing works with agents on or off, and is never limited by country.

## How a withdrawal works

1. Choose Withdraw, beside Idle Cash on the Positions tab. The dialog shows Available.
2. Enter an amount, or choose Max for everything available.
3. The first time, your wallet approves your manager contract as its operator, if your first deposit hasn't already. That is one extra signature, once per strategy.
4. Your wallet sends one transaction through your manager contract. It brings the Strategy account's free USDC back to the vault when the vault's own cash is short, requests the withdrawal, settles it at NAV per share, and claims the USDC to your wallet.
5. The withdrawal appears in Activity with its steps, and your Cash rises.

You receive NAV per share at the moment the transaction settles, so the amount can differ slightly from the figure you saw. Tango pays the network fee. See [Withdrawals](https://app.tango.finance/docs/vault/withdrawals.md#on-tangofinance) for what each call does in the vault.

## What Available counts

Available is the strategy's cash that can leave in one transaction: the vault's idle USDC plus the free USDC in its Strategy account. It does not count:

- spot tokens and stocks, which must be sold first;
- cash in a money market, which must be withdrawn first;
- margin and cash on Hyperliquid, or cash in transit, which must come back to Base first.

When nothing can leave, the dialog says so: "Nothing can leave right now. Close a position to free up cash."

## Freeing cash from positions

Close a position, or choose Close All, on the Positions tab. Closing sells, withdraws from money markets and brings margin back from Hyperliquid, then keeps the cash in the strategy as idle cash. When it finishes, Withdraw can take it. See [Positions, Close and Activity](https://app.tango.finance/docs/app/positions-and-closing.md#close-and-close-all).

Agents also bring cash back as they run. A rule whose margin comes back after each trade, for example, returns it to cash in the strategy.

## What can delay a withdrawal

| Cause | Why it waits |
| --- | --- |
| Cash is in positions | Available counts only free cash. Close the positions first |
| The strategy holds stocks and US markets are closed | Stock prices are stale until markets reopen, so nothing settles. See [Tokenized stocks](https://app.tango.finance/docs/app/tokenized-stocks.md) |
| Cash just moved to or from Hyperliquid | The Perps account's value must update after a transfer before anything settles |
| A rate limit has no room | A close that sells in pieces waits for the limit to refill. Bringing cash back to the vault is never limited |

## From your wallet to anywhere

Withdraw on a strategy's page brings cash to your Tango wallet. To send it on to another wallet or an exchange, use Withdraw on the Account page: choose the network, the amount and the address, check the fee and what you receive, and approve it in your wallet's confirmation. See [Sign in and add cash](https://app.tango.finance/docs/app/get-started.md#sending-cash-out).

## Forced exit

A Tango vault lets a holder force their own exit if a withdrawal request is not settled within the vault's forced-exit wait, which is fixed when the strategy is deployed. A forced exit pays from the vault's idle cash only. On your own strategy you settle your own withdrawals, so you should not need it. The app does not offer it. See [Forced exit](https://app.tango.finance/docs/vault/withdrawals.md#forced-exit).

## Someone else holding shares

Shares are an ERC-20 token, so they can be sent to another wallet. Someone else who holds shares of your strategy can't manage it in the app, and tango.finance never settles their requests automatically.
