Timelocks, roles and limits in the app

What the Advanced tab on a tango.finance strategy shows, how you grant a settler, allocator or trader, and how lowering or raising a rate limit works with your timelocks.

The Advanced tab shows the controls of your strategy's vault: its timelocks, every account that holds one of its roles, and every rate limit. It is also where you change them. Each change is one call your wallet signs to the vault's access manager, checked first against what you pressed. Most people never need this tab, but it shows exactly who can do what to your strategy.

Key points

  • Timelocks shows the Medium, High and Critical delays set when the strategy was created. They can't change.
  • Roles lists every account holding one of the vault's roles: Your Wallet, Your Manager and Agents, plus anyone you grant.
  • Rate Limits lists each limit's Capacity, Refill per Day and what is Available Now. Lowering a limit takes effect at once. Raising one waits the High timelock, then asks you to sign again.
  • Grant Role gives another account the Settler or Allocator role, or the Trader role on one account.

Timelocks

The first section shows your strategy's Medium, High and Critical timelocks, with an info icon beside each that lists what that tier holds back. "None" means changes in that tier take effect as soon as you sign. The note under them says they were set when the strategy was created and can't change.

TierHolds back
MediumRaising a fee
HighUnpausing the vault, raising the deposit cap, raising a rate limit, and adding a trader or an allocator
CriticalAdding an account, module or asset, changing a policy, changing the fee recipient, and changing the NAV provider or a price source

See Timelocks for how they work.

Roles

The Roles table lists each account that holds a role on the vault, with the roles it holds. The app names the accounts it knows:

AccountRolesWhat it is
Your WalletVault AdminYour Tango wallet, the vault's top authority
Your ManagerVault ManagerAn owned multicall only your wallet can use, which lets one transaction handle a withdrawal
AgentsSettler, Allocator, Trader on Strategy, and Trader on Perps for a perps strategyYour agents' multicall, run by Tango's execution service

An account you grant appears by its address. Every role shown is read from the vault itself at one block, so the table shows who holds a role now, not only who was given one.

See Roles and profiles for what each role can and cannot do.

Grant Role

Grant Role gives another account one of three roles. Choose the role, paste the account's address, and sign.

RoleIt canIt starts
SettlerSettle deposits and withdrawalsAt once
AllocatorSend the vault's cash into its accounts, within their limitsAfter the High timelock
Trader on Strategy or Trader on PerpsTrade that account within its limits, and return its cash to the vaultAfter the High timelock. Returning cash starts at once

A granted role is a real permission on your vault. Grant one only to an account you control or trust, such as your own automation. None of these roles can send cash anywhere but the vault, its accounts and the venues it was set up with. On a strategy with no timelocks, every grant starts at once.

The grant runs as an operation, and Activity shows it as Grant Role.

Rate Limits

The Rate Limits table lists every limit on the strategy's accounts:

ColumnWhat it shows
AssetThe asset or money market the limit meters
LimitCash In, Buy, Sell or Lend, and on which account when there are two
CapacityThe most that can move before the limit has to refill
Refill per DayHow much room comes back each day
Available NowHow much can move right now

Cash In meters cash sent from the vault into an account. Buy and Sell meter one asset arriving in and leaving the Strategy account through swaps. Lend meters cash supplied to one money market. See Rate limits.

Setting a limit

Choose a row to open its limit. Enter a new Capacity and Refill per Day, or turn on Unlimited, then choose Set Limit.

  • Lowering a limit, or closing it to zero, takes effect as soon as you sign. That is the quickest way to stop one path, such as buying one asset, while everything else keeps working.
  • Raising a limit, or making it unlimited, waits your High timelock. When it has passed, the app asks you to sign again to carry it out. With no timelocks, it takes effect as soon as you sign.
  • The refill is stored onchain per second, so the app sets the largest whole amount per second that fits the daily figure you enter.

The change runs as an operation, and Activity shows it as Rate Limit.

What the tab does not offer

The vault allows more than this tab offers. The app does not offer adding assets, money markets, perp markets or accounts, changing fees, pausing, or cancelling a scheduled change. Your wallet holds the role for each of them, and could make them directly on the contracts, within the timelocks. See Fixed configuration.
