Positions, Close and Activity

How the Positions tab on tango.finance shows what a strategy holds, how Close and Close All turn positions back into cash step by step, how Activity lists every operation, and what Ask Tango answers.

A strategy's Positions tab shows what it holds, and is where you close positions. Closing runs as one operation that finishes on Tango's side even if you close the tab, and the Activity tab shows its steps as they happen. This page covers both tabs, and Ask Tango, which answers questions about what is moving your positions. For the rest of a strategy's page, see Strategies and a strategy's page.

Key points

  • Positions starts with Idle Cash and Withdraw, then one table of every token, stock, money market and perp the strategy holds.
  • Close on a position, or Close All, lists its steps first. It cancels resting orders, closes or sells, brings margin back from Hyperliquid and leaves the cash in the strategy.
  • Every deposit, withdrawal, trade, close and change is an operation in Activity, with each step's chain, amount, status and transaction.
  • Ask Tango answers questions about what is moving your positions, with its sources. Its answers stay with you and never reach the agents that run your strategy.

Positions

The Positions tab starts with Idle Cash, the strategy's USDC that is in no position, with Withdraw. Below it is one table of everything the strategy holds:

ColumnWhat it shows
AssetThe token, stock, money market or perp
ChainBase, or Hyperliquid for a perp
QuantityHow much is held
ValueWhat it is worth. For a perp, its margin, with the notional size below
LiquidationFor a perp, how far the price is from liquidation
LeverageFor a perp, its current leverage
FundingFor a perp, its current funding rate

Cells that don't apply stay empty. Each row has Close, and Close All sits above the table. A perp above its Max Leverage shows Reduce, which brings it back under the limit in one step. See How agents run a strategy.

Close and Close All

Close opens a dialog that lists what it will do, in order, before anything starts.

ClosingSteps
A perpCancel resting orders, close the position, bring its margin back to Base, and return the cash to the strategy
A money marketWithdraw from it, and keep the cash in the strategy
A token or stockSell it, and keep the cash in the strategy
Close AllCancel resting orders and close perps, bring margin back to Base, sell spot and stocks and withdraw from money markets, and keep the cash in the strategy

Closing never sends cash to your wallet. It turns positions into idle cash in the strategy. To take that cash out, use Withdraw. See Withdrawals in the app.

Your wallet signs once to start a close. The rest runs on Tango's side through your agents' account, under the approval you gave at setup, so it finishes even if you close the tab or turn agents off.

  • A close waits rather than fails when it needs to: for a fill, for a bridge transfer to arrive, for the Perps account's value to update, or for a rate limit to refill.
  • A sale goes in pieces when a rate limit or the market allows only part of it at once.
  • Closing while agents are on turns Agentic Rebalancing off for that strategy, so agents don't reopen what you closed.
  • When a strategy holds stocks and US markets are closed, perps can still close, and the rest waits for the market to open.
  • Some cash can be too small to move: a little spot left after a sale, or cash on Hyperliquid below its withdrawal minimum. The close then finishes as Completed and says where that remainder sits.

You can stop a close that has sent nothing yet. After that, Stop halts it at the next step, undoes nothing and reports where everything is.

Activity

The Activity tab lists every operation on the strategy, newest first, with its Time, Action, Amount and Status.

ActionWhat started it
TradeAgents, or Reduce
DepositDeploy or Deposit
WithdrawWithdraw on the strategy's page
CloseClose or Close All
Grant RoleGrant Role on the Advanced tab
Rate LimitA new limit on the Advanced tab

An operation is Waiting For You, Running, Completed, Needs Attention or Stopped. Choose a row to see its steps in order. Each step has an action, the chain, the asset, the amount, a status and a link to its transaction:

Step statusMeaning
UpcomingNot started
RunningSent, or in progress
ConfirmedDone onchain
CheckingThe outcome isn't known yet, so Tango is reading it back instead of sending again
Re-ConfirmingBase reorganized its recent blocks, so the step is being confirmed again
FailedIt did not go through
SkippedIt was not needed

A Bridge step names the chain it goes to, and once it confirms, links to the transaction that received it there. An Updating Value step waits for the Perps account's value to update after cash moves. An operation that needs your wallet shows Continue, and one you started shows Stop while it can still stop. Every time is in UTC.

Tango decides whether a step on Base confirmed or failed a few blocks after it lands, rather than waiting for finality, so nothing waits long on a step that did not go through.

Ask Tango

Ask Tango opens a box for one question about the strategy, such as "What is moving these positions today?". It reads the strategy's positions, finds news on what it holds, and answers with its sources listed under the answer.

  • Ask Tango only answers. It can't trade, move cash or change the strategy.
  • Its answers never reach the agents that run your strategy.
  • Tango holds back any sentence of an answer that names an address or a venue, tells you to move money, or states a figure nothing showed it.
  • A strategy with no positions is answered without reading news.
  • There is a daily limit on questions.

An answer is not advice. Check its sources.
