Using tango.finance
Fixed configuration
What a tango.finance strategy fixes at deployment, from its assets and markets to its timelocks and ceilings, and what you can still change while it runs.
When you deploy a strategy, much of it is set for good. Its assets, money markets, perp markets, accounts and timelocks become part of its vault, and the app gives you no way to add to them later. What stays open is how the strategy runs: its agents, its leverage, its rule settings and its rate limits. This page sets out which is which.
Key points
- Assets, money markets, perp markets and the number of accounts are fixed once the strategy is deployed.
- Timelocks and the vault's ceilings, such as fee ceilings and the deposit cap's ceiling, are fixed by the contracts and can never change.
- You can still turn agents on and off, change Max Leverage and rule settings, change rate limits and grant roles.
- To use a different set of assets or markets, build a new strategy.
What is fixed?
| Fixed at deployment | Enforced by |
|---|---|
| Network (Base) and the vault's asset (USDC) | The contracts |
| Spot tokens, stocks and money markets | The app. The contracts allow additions as Critical-tier changes |
| Perp markets | Tango's signature on every Hyperliquid action |
| Number of accounts: one, or two with perps | The contracts (the vault's maximum) and the app |
| Timelocks | The contracts |
| Fee ceilings, the deposit cap's ceiling and the forced-exit wait | The contracts |
| Slippage ceilings on swaps and lending | The contracts |
| The strategy's kind: hold, program, rule or Autopilot | The app |
The vault's onchain name is fixed too. It is a neutral name, not your strategy's name, which stays in the app.
Why fix it?
A strategy that agents run should not be able to grow into something you did not review. Fixing the configuration means:
- the assets and markets you checked on Review are the only ones the agents can ever use;
- any change outside the app is a scheduled onchain change, public while it waits if you set timelocks;
- Tango's defaults can improve for new strategies without changing yours.
Perp markets
You choose perp markets on Review. A market you did not choose, or that Hyperliquid later delists, can only be closed. It can never be opened.
The vault contracts do not know about markets, so this limit is enforced offchain. Every Hyperliquid action needs Tango's signature, and Tango refuses actions outside your chosen markets. See Hyperliquid trading wallets.
What can still change?
| Change | Where | Does it move money? |
|---|---|---|
| Agents on or off | Settings, Agentic Rebalancing | No. Off stops new decisions |
| Max Leverage for each perp market | Settings | No. Lowering it can cancel orders that would add risk |
| A program's, rule's or Autopilot's settings: schedule, size, condition, leverage, stop loss, take profit, review interval, instructions | Settings, Rules | Not by itself. Agents follow the new settings |
| Rate limits | Advanced | No. Raising one waits the High timelock |
| Roles: a settler, allocator or trader | Advanced | Not by itself. A trader or allocator waits the High timelock |
| Closing positions, or the whole strategy once it holds nothing | Positions, Settings | It turns positions into cash, and only ever reduces risk |
The strategy's name is set on Review and does not change after deployment.
What about changes outside the app?
Your wallet holds the vault's top admin role. The contracts would let it schedule a change directly, without the app, such as registering a new asset. Any such change waits its tier's timelock and is public onchain while it waits. With timelocks off, it takes effect as soon as your wallet signs it. See Timelocks.
