Using tango.finance
Build a strategy
How a sentence on Home becomes a strategy on tango.finance, from the questions it may ask and every section of Review to Deploy and the setup steps that follow.
You build a strategy by describing it in one sentence. Tango turns the sentence into a draft, asks about anything important you left out, and opens Review, where you can check and change all of it. When you deploy, Tango creates a vault on Base with your choices built in and moves your first deposit into it. Many of those choices can never change afterwards, so it helps to know what each one becomes.
Key points
- Type a strategy on Home and choose Build It. If something with no safe default is missing, the app asks, over a few rounds of questions at most.
- Review shows the prompt, the name, what the strategy does, its assets, its timelocks, its costs and the amount. Values the build filled in by itself are tagged Assumed.
- Deploy Strategy creates the vault and deposits the amount together. Tango pays the network fees.
- Assets, money markets, perp markets and timelocks are fixed once the strategy exists.
The prompt
Home has a market tape, the headline Build Your Trading Strategy, and one box. Type what you want the strategy to do, in your own words, and choose Build It.
The arrow on the box shows example strategies, such as Buy BTC Every Day and Buy the Mag 7 Every Week. Choosing one fills the box with its sentence and does nothing else, so you can edit it before you choose Build It. An example that is unchanged builds from a saved template, so it always works.
If you are signed out, Build It asks you to sign in and keeps your text. The box clears once Tango answers.
What Tango answers
Tango answers in one of three ways.
| Answer | What you see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Review | The draft opens on Review | Check it and deploy, or leave it |
| Questions | What you asked, then Tango's questions, each with choices | Pick an answer for every question, then Continue |
| Not supported | What you asked, and why each part isn't supported yet, sometimes with a closest prompt that is | Request This Strategy, Edit, or Try This Instead |
Request This Strategy sends your prompt to the Tango team to read. Edit puts your text back in the box, and Try This Instead puts the closest supported prompt there.
Questions
Tango asks only about details that change what the strategy is and have no safe default:
- which assets to buy, when you didn't name any;
- how often to buy;
- whether it should buy on a schedule or act when a price moves, when the sentence could mean either;
- for a perps rule: which market, long or short, which way the price moves, by how much and over how long.
Tango writes every question and every choice itself. An AI model never writes them, and nothing is chosen for you. A build can ask only a few rounds. If something is still missing after the last one, Tango says what is missing, and you can edit the prompt and try again.
Assumed values
Details that do have a safe default are filled in for you and tagged Assumed on Review: the share of cash each buy or trade uses, the time of day a schedule runs, the leverage, which money markets hold idle cash, and no stop loss or take profit. The tag stays until you change the value. Check every Assumed value before you deploy.
Review
Review is one page. Your edits save by themselves, and Tango checks each one. No AI model runs on Review. From the top:
| Section | What it shows | What you can change |
|---|---|---|
| The prompt | The sentence the draft came from | Nothing; it is there to compare |
| Name | The strategy's name in the app | The name |
| What It Does | A plain description of the strategy, written from the draft's data | The schedule, size, condition, side, leverage, stop loss and take profit, as the strategy has them |
| Assets | Spot, Money Markets, Stocks and Perps | Add or remove each asset, and each perp's Max Leverage |
| Timelocks | Medium, High and Critical | All three, in Advanced Settings |
| Costs | What deploying and running the strategy costs | Nothing |
| Amount | Your first deposit, with Max, your Cash, the Minimum and the Maximum | The amount |
What It Does
The editable fields depend on the kind of strategy:
| Kind | Fields |
|---|---|
| Program | Every (an hour, four hours, a day or a week), At (a time in UTC, for daily and weekly), and Size (a share of the strategy's cash each time) |
| Rule | Direction (Falls or Rises), By (a percentage), Within (hours), then Open: Side (Long or Short), Leverage, Size, Stop Loss and Take Profit |
| Autopilot | Review Every (hours) and Instructions |
| Hold | None; it keeps cash in money markets |
A program or hold strategy that parks cash says "Keeps idle cash in money markets." A rule says whether it keeps its margin on Hyperliquid between trades or brings it back to cash after each one, depending on what your prompt asked. See How agents run a strategy.
Assets
Each group lists what the strategy may hold or use, with Add and Remove:
- Spot lists tokens such as cbBTC or WETH.
- Money Markets lists the lending markets where idle cash can sit, each with its current APY, the yearly rate it pays today.
- Stocks lists tokenized stocks the strategy buys and holds. See Tokenized stocks.
- Perps lists Hyperliquid markets, each with a Max Leverage stepper. It can't go above what Hyperliquid allows for that market. See Perps on Hyperliquid.
Everything you keep here becomes part of the vault, and the strategy can never add to it later. See Fixed configuration.
Timelocks
Timelocks make changes that add risk wait before they take effect. Review's Timelocks section lists Medium, High and Critical, each showing None or its length. The info icon beside each tier lists what it holds back:
| Tier | Holds back |
|---|---|
| Medium | Raising a fee |
| High | Unpausing the vault, raising the deposit cap or a rate limit, and adding a trader or an allocator |
| Critical | Adding an account, module or asset, changing a policy or the fee recipient, and changing the NAV provider or a price source |
They are off unless you set them. Choose Advanced Settings to open the Timelocks dialog:
- Enter a number of hours for Medium, High and Critical.
- Choose Save. The dialog refuses timelocks the vault or the app would not accept, and says why: when each one is not longer than the one above it, when High is shorter than twice the vault's forced-exit wait, or when one is longer than the app allows.
- To go back to none, choose Turn Off.
The app also sets the vault's Low tier for you, as short as it can be whenever timelocks are on, since the vault needs it and it holds nothing back. Under the section, Review says "Timelocks can't change after the strategy is created." See Timelocks.
Costs
Costs lists what deploying and running the strategy costs: Deployment Fee and, for a strategy with perps, Perps Builder Fee and Hyperliquid Activation. Swaps also pay an integrator fee inside each trade's slippage. See Costs.
Amount
Enter your first deposit, or choose Max. The amount must be at least the Minimum and at most the Maximum, and within your cash. The Minimum is what the strategy needs to run: enough for its smallest buy on every asset, or for a perps strategy, enough for a transfer to Hyperliquid to go through. When your cash is below it, the button becomes Add Cash.
When a strategy holds stocks and US stock markets are closed, Deploy Strategy is replaced by the time markets open, in UTC. The draft stays until then. If one of your edits could not be saved, the button becomes Save Changes, which tries again.
Deploy
Choose Deploy Strategy. Tango checks the amount, that you are in an eligible country, and that your account has room for another strategy. It then creates the strategy and moves to its page. Tango pays the network fees.
After you deploy
The strategy's page shows its setup steps until it is running, each marked Upcoming, Running, Done or Failed.
- Deploy Strategy: Tango's factory creates your vault and its accounts, with your wallet as its admin. You sign nothing for this step. See Deployment through the factory.
- Authorize Agents: your wallet lets Tango's execution service sign for your agents' account on this strategy, so agents can run it while you are away. See Roles and profiles.
- Add Funds: your wallet approves the exact amount and makes the first deposit, in one transaction. See Deposits in the app.
A strategy with perps has more to sign once its first transfer reaches Hyperliquid: the trading wallet's policy, the agent that trades for it, the account's mode and Tango's builder fee. See Hyperliquid trading wallets.
If you pressed Deploy Strategy in this tab, setup asks your wallet for each signature without another prompt, and a deposit only for the amount you entered. If you open the strategy somewhere else, it asks first: Continue Setup, or Add with the amount. Closing the tab doesn't stop setup. Reopening the strategy picks up at the next step.
Once setup finishes, agents are on and the strategy runs by itself.
